Nicki Minaj - Girlfriend
----------------It was hard to choose what song I liked best off Minaj's mixtape Barbie World. One run-through of the Cash Money protege's work was enough to convince me of her talent beyond the radio hits. It seems to be a reoccuring trend in hip-hop and rap that mixtapes outshine the commercial appeal of albums glittered up with pop hooks and shallow subjects.


Barbie World outshines Pink Friday without exception.When the focus is driven towards creativity in lyrics she forgoes the detour of celebrity collaborations. Her song "Girlfriend" is a friendship bracelet of Range Rovers, shopping and being badass with your BFF. It's girly with a punch, like Minaj herself. Other great songs on the mixtape include "Get Ya Paper Up" and "Getting Paid."
