Song of the Day

**2/15/10

JLS - One Shot

---------------JLS are as familiar with once-in-a-lifetime oppportunities as German figure skating pairs in Vancouver. This British boyband is otherwise known as Jack the Lad Swing (nice choice to abbreviate boys), which was an X Factor finalist this year. The 2010 BackstreetNSYNCOTown group are pop-locking through five-part harmony in their begging to be remixed for clubs hit, "One Shot." Don't get bored by the piano intro - it picks up to the radio-friendly boom-cack just in time. JLS just released their single "Everybody in Love" six days ago, a sweet rocking revolution of mushy gushy love...it's kinda lame. So, skip the bronze medal single and go for the gold with "One Shot."

Band of Skulls - Friends

-------------Band of Skulls must have a friend who's been secretly sending their music to record labels and vampire authors. The British rock trio were suprised the movie's music supervisors even knew who they were. Nonetheless, the slow-bopping tambourine tapper "Friends" pledges allegiance to bar hopping and weekend devotions to best pals with more commercial appeal than the band may have expected. They played up Thanksgiving at The Neighborhood Theater, a hometown venue in Charlotte, NC, and if my tummy wasn't so obese with greenbean casserole and stuffing, I'd have seen them. Get "Friends" from the New Moon soundtrack (sorry...I wish it was on another album). But if you want to hear more Band of Skulls, check out "Death By Diamonds and Pearls" and "I Know What I Am" from their debut album Baby Darling Doll Face Honey.

Song of the Rainy, Cold Day

**10/12/09

Aqualung - Take Me Home

--------------Unless you are new to my musings, you have probably noticed that rainy days are ones that I rarely look at with a soggy mood (unlike my poor feet, which even wrapped in tube socks and fugly Uggs are still numb). Some of my favorite Zzz's are caught and most delicious coffee's are drunk while listening to the hypnotic diminishes of Matt Hale's piano. Under the nom de plume "Aqualung," Hale's tragically pretty "Take Me Home" sounds perfect against a backdrop of fog and underneath a toasty warm throw. Can ya tell I'm looking forward to an afternoon nap here?!

Well, if you've been blessed with fair weather, pair it with "Brighter Than Sunshine," a sweet symphony of violins and piano, and Bambi-esque "suddenly you're mine" lyrics. I'm pretty sure my heart murmers with joy every time I listen to this one. Get both songs, no matter what the weather, from Aqualung's Still Life.
