Motion City Soundtrack - Her Words Destroy My Planet

-----------I'm sure most of you remember the adorably inaccurate but positively heart-warming adventures of Little Foot, Sarah the triceratops, Petri, Ducky and Spike. Yes, I am referring to The Land Before Time, and why not remember those lil' guys while listening to My Dinosaur Life, Motion City Soundtrack's newest album?

This album is perfect when you're munching on Tree Stars at parties or cruising around the great valley with friends. It's MCS's best effort to date. "Her Words" is a backhand to the heartbreaker and Justin Pierre's attempt to stall the extinction of his heart. Too bad selling your Xbox, taking Japanese and sending letters isn't enough. Best of luck to you, Justin.

Brand New - At the Bottom
----------------Not going to lie, when I first heard "At the Bottom" off of Brand New's upcoming release, Daisy, I thought someone changed the names of a Modest Mouse record just to mess with me. But it's definitely the same band from Long Island that gave us "Soco Amaretto Lime" and told the ones who made us miserable that we'd be better off home on Saturday nights. "At the Bottom" revisits the bitterness being alone with only the thought of sending the ones who broke us apart six feet under. Daisy is going to be sold everywhere on Tuesday, but if you're dying to hear it, several tracks are on Myspace, including the revolution-charged "Gasoline" and the dazed and confused "Bed."

The Arctic Monkeys - Only Ones Who Know

--------------Let's face it: if every single encounter we had with the opposite sex was meant to be, then even the most instrumentally beautiful ballads that cope with a tough loss or a broken heart would simply fall out of place. Luckily (shall we say), there is never a shortage of a somber connection, and "Only Ones Who Know" offers a tale of commiseration that even the most stoic of hearts can beat to. Take a look at the lyrics to this Arctic Monkeys song from the album, Favourite Worst Nightmare.

"Only Ones Who Know"

In a foreign place, the saving grace was the feeling,
That it was a heart that he was stealing,
Oh he was ready to impress and the fierce excitement,
The eyes are bright he couldnt wait to get away,
I bet the juliet was just the icing on the cake,
Make no mistake no,

And even if somehow we could have shown you the place you wanted,
Well I'm sure you could have made it that bit better on your own,
And I bet she told a million people that she'd stay in touch,
Well all the little promises they dont mean much,
When theres memories to be made,
And I hope you're holding hands by new years eve,
They made it far too easy to believe,
That true romance cant be acheived these days,
And even if somebody could have shown you the place you wanted,
Well I sure you could have made it that bit better on your own,
You are the only ones who know

Matt Duke - Sex and Reruns

---------------Sometimes life can pee in your Cheerios, like a flat tire, a thunderstorm during a picnic, and then of course, heartbreak. Matt Duke knows a thing or two about such wreckage, and his bandaid comes in the form of simple keyboards and simple vocals. Rather than encouraging you to let it all go, Matt Duke prefers to block it all out, drowning sorrows in everything from white noise to Jesus. Get it from Matt Duke's album, Kingdom Underground.
