Song of the Day

India Arie - Beautiful
----------------I was left a sticky note on my laptop that said "India Arie...check out her music!" with a little music note next to it. So I thought if this person went through the trouble to leave a lavender-colored pencil message, I'd check it out.
Fifteen Grammy noms. Impressed? Arie has kept her soulful, sunny and melodic writings under the mainstream radar.

In 2001 her debut album Acoustic Soul went multi-platinum. The New York Times calls her an artist of substance, a complimentary understatement to describe the expansive success of this artist. "Beautiful" is the perfect first-taste of Arie's simple, open-hearted writing.

Talib Kweli - I Try

------------I try to vary the music that I walk around town to everyday, but today I found myself listening to Common's entire catalog. Since I don't like to repeat artists on this blog, I handed my hip-hop driven mind to Pandora to point me in a similar direction. Kweli came on, and I'm more than satisfied.

After a night of glitzy and glamorous playtime at the Grammys, I wanted something a little more pensive (and an album that's a bit mature for music turnaround) to welcome the new month and a new year of music. Talib Kweli teams up with Mary J. Blige on the stark confessional, "I Try," with razor-sharp rhymes slicing through thoughts on heritage, and the status quo of music. The Beautiful Struggle, is the Brooklyn emcee's 2004 project.

Never Shout Never - Can't Stand It

-----------It's been a big week for music, and it's not even Grammy night! Red Hot Chili Peppers welcomed Josh Klinghoffer as the band's new guitarist, Take Action tour kicked off and Death Cab reassured us they're working on an album this year.

All of this, and Never Shout Never released what is love? for a cool $7.99 (plus the governer's wages) at Target. "Can't Stand It" is too freaking adorable for words - there is clapping, a smiling horn section and disgustingly "super-duper cute" lyrics.

If you hate everything that has to do with love at the moment, do not listen to this song. It will gross you out, I promise you that. But if you're up for it, take a listen to "Can't Stand It" from what is love?

Diana Krall - Let's Fall in Love

------------The history of humanity in terms of romance has had some not so stellar moments: Ro and Jules kicked the bucket, King Henry VIII went through wives like hankies, and Elliot Spitzer made one hell of an unfaithful high-class phone call. Grammy-winning jazz songstress Diana Krall makes the moment passionate, spontaneous, and sensually matter-of-fact in her no worries sway, "Let's Fall in Love." Hesitation is thrown to the winds with slinky jazz guitars, ballroom piano, and devilish lyrics from Krall. Fall in love with her sixth studio album, 2001's The Look of Love.

Alicia Keys - Fallin'

----------If you can't listen to Keys' vocals in the first few seconds of "Fallin'" without getting chills, you need some soul searching. "Fallin' " sways with gospel tones and tugs at heartstrings with sweeping vocals. The classically trained pianist/R&B wonder made her relapse into romance a Billboard, radio, and MTV sensation. Her 2001 debut album Songs in A Minor sold a staggering 11 million copies, got her five Grammys, and flaunted her talents as an accomplished vitruoso.
